Official Release From Madison Schools On New Boys Varsity Basketball Coach

Madison names Sherron Wilkerson as new varsity boys basketball coach effective immediately

Madison Athletic Director Joe Bronkella announced the hiring of Sherron Wilkerson as the new Varsity boys basketball coach following approval at the monthly board of trustees meeting. “We are very excited to welcome Coach Wilkerson to the Madison family,” shares Bronkella. “He not only brings twenty years of coaching experience and a wealth of basketball knowledge, but also brings extensive personal experience as a premier player at the high school, college, and professional/international levels. Wilkerson brings a very unique skill set to our program. His experience and coaching philosophy are both elements which can take our program to the next level. Above that, his personal commitment to the academic and athletic success in the short term and focus on the importance of post-secondary opportunities for our student athletes was a huge piece of the interest in this hire.”

 

Wilkerson is a well-known name in the basketball community.

As a player his accomplishments include:

○ Three-time Sectional and Regional Champion

○ Two year Semi-State ○ 1993 State Championship

○ Gatorade Player of the Year 1993

○ McDonald’s All-American 1993

● Indiana University (1993-1996)

○ Two years of NCAA tournament experience

● Rio Grande University (1996)

○ MVP Wooster Classic 1996

○ Bachelor's Degree in Arts & Humanities Professional playing accomplishments include:

● Sodertalje Kings Sweden (1998-2000)

○ Swedish League Defensive Player of the Year 1999

● Latvian League (2000-2002)

○ Latvian MVP All-Star game 2001 & 2002

○ 1st Team Defense 2001 & 2002

○ Latvian Championship 2002

● National Elite Basketball League (NEBL) Bronze Medal 2002

● Fenerbache, Turkey (2002-2003)

● Minas Tenis Clube Basketball Team, Brazil (2003-2004)

Madison began the search in mid-April receiving applications from more than twenty candidates. The search committee quickly narrowed the field to five exceptional individuals. After first-round interviews, they narrowed the field to the final three candidates who were interviewed in-depth by the committee.

 

“I first would like to take this time to extend my sincerest thank you to Dr. Studebaker, Principal Gasaway, Mr. Bronkella and the Madison community as a whole for affording me this opportunity,” shares Wilkerson. “I am very humbled by this opportunity and look forward to continuing to build upon the rich basketball tradition here at Madison Consolidated High School. Coach Wilkerson currently lives in Louisville with his wife Carissa and daughter Brooke. He has worked at VSG as an Account Executive for twelve years and has been involved in our community as a professional, mentor, and coach.
