12 Pope John Students Awarded IKE's Achievement Award

Each semester teachers chose the students that they believe embody the meaning of this award.

(Madison, Ind.) – Prince of Peace Catholic Schools is proud to announce the student recipients of this semester's Indiana- Kentucky Electric Corporation’s (IKE) Achievement Award.

IKE in the sense of the award means Intelligence, Kindness, and Extra Effort in and out of the classroom.

Each semester teachers chose the students that they believe embody the meaning of this award.

This year's recipients from Prince of Peace Catholic Schools are as follows:

Kindergarten Recipient - Ricardo Ambrosio Vilchis

"Ricardo is an exceptionally bright student whose kindness shines on the inside and the outside.  He always comes to school excited, happy, and ready to learn!  Ricardo loves giving compliments to his friends and teachers.  He is genuine and meaningful in each compliment he gives.  He truly has a heart of gold.  Not only is Ricardo as sweet as can be, but he is also an extremely intelligent student who works to his full potential each day.  He is currently reading above grade level, has memorized more than half of his yearly sight words, and excels in mathematics."

1st Grade Recipient - Luisiana Torres Briceno

"Luisiana is a great role model in the classroom.  She has shown our class that no barrier can stop us from becoming great friends and growing in education.  Although language may have been a barrier coming into our classroom, Luisiana has increased her vocabulary and speaking skills greatly. She is an amazing friend and teacher to all of her classmates and teacher.  She cares for all and wants everyone to be successful in all that they do."

2nd Grade Recipient - Abel Lacy

"Abel is a student who is kind to everyone, all the time.  He is thoughtful, hardworking, and goes above and beyond to help others out including his teacher.  Abel's determination to master those math facts and excel at our math mad minute is an inspiration to us all."

3rd Grade Recipient - Alex Rios Amaro

"Alex is hardworking, polite, and kind to others.  He always has a smile on his face and is willing to help others.  He is a friend to everyone.  Alex has grown as a student this year by improving his growth scores in reading and math.  He is a great role model for other students at Pope John."

4th Grade Recipient - Ireland Cook

"Ireland is a bright spot in the classroom.  She is funny, intelligent, and kind.  She has an excellent personality.  Ireland is good at asking questions, participating in class, and helping those in need.  She has worked hard this semester on meeting challenges and overcoming obstacles.  We are proud of her extra effort both in the classroom and virtually.  Ireland has shown great improvement and has good grades.  She is willing to help without being asked and is a great friend to all."

5th Grade Recipient - Lucy Wilhelm

"Lucy works hard to achieve excellent grades and even goes above and beyond on assignments.  She willingly helps her classmates with online and in-class learning questions and has been a great help to her teacher as well.  Lucy is respected among her peers, and with an outgoing and thoughtful personality, she is deserving of an award that rewards intelligence, kindness, and extra effort."

6th Grade Recipient - Audrey Monroe

"Audrey represents what it means to be polite.  She may be quiet at times, but she is never without manners and is never shy about helping her classmates get on track.  Audrey is a very good helper to all of her teachers.  One of her teachers said that Audrey brings "delight to her day".  When it comes to academics, she works hard and makes sure to get her work done, and asks questions when needed, even while helping her classmates with their work if needed.  She is a joy to have in class and is a great representative of Pope John."

7th Grade Recipient - Keegan McMahan

"Keegan is a mature young man, persistent in his effort with school work, sincere, and level-headed.  He has good grades and an excellent attendance record."

8th Grade Recipient - Jade Cox

"Jade demonstrates kindness to others, gives her best effort, and has done a great job keeping on top of assignments whether in person or during virtual learning.  She has good grades and an excellent attendance record."

9th Grade Recipient - Cora Wieczorek

"Cora shows all of the characteristics represented by this award.  Especially in a time right now where kindness can feel like a rarity, she extends kindness.  She has also demonstrated the extra effort needed during our changing learning formats to keep up with her school work.  Cora has good grades and an excellent attendance record."

10th Grade Recipient - Emma Clark
"Emma is a joy to be around.  She has a positive attitude that is evident in her interactions with others.  She is involved in school activities and shows true school spirit!  She also has excellent grades and attendance."

11th Grade Recipient - Nolan Tandy
"Nolan is focused, intelligent, motivated, and kind.  He has maintained excellent grades and attendance throughout high school and is one of the top students in his class." 

12th Grade Recipient - Phoebe Grote
"Phoebe is very active and dedicated to being involved in school activities from academic teams to athletics.  She is a responsible student, trustworthy, kind, and fun.  She has maintained excellent grades and attendance throughout high school and is one of the top students in her class."
