A North Vernon woman was arrested on drug charges after Deputy witnesses erratic driving.

Drug hidden

On September 21, 2019 at approximately 1:06 p.m. Deputy Thomas Mellencamp was on routine patrol in the area of County Road 500 East when he observed a vehicle commit several traffic infractions. Deputy Mellencamp then initiated a traffic stop and while speaking with the driver, Betty Johnson, 46, of North Vernon, he became suspicious of illegal activity.

Deputy Mellencamp then contacted Sgt. Cody Low who then arrived on scene with his K-9 partner Axel. K-9 Axel gave a positive alert on the vehicle. Deputies located illegal pills inside of the vehicle and Ms. Johnson was placed under arrest.

While in route to the jail Ms. Johnson advised that Deputy Mellencamp that she had a half ounce of Methamphetamine hidden in her person. Once at the Jennings County Jail, the illegal drugs were located by Jail Officer Michelle Herrod.

Ms. Johnson faces preliminary Charges of Possession of Methamphetamine over 10 Grams and also Legend Drug Violation. Ms. Johnson is being held at the Jennings County Jail on a $3,155 bond.
