Jefferson Co. resident arrested

Tuesday, deputies with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Jefferson County, Indiana man following a lengthy joint investigation by the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police into the fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a North Vernon, Indiana man in September of last year.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:38 AM on September 16, 2018 when Davon Lee Shine, age 24, was struck by a vehicle on US 50 near County Road 700 West in Jennings County.  Shine passed away as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.  The vehicle that struck Shine left the scene and was not on scene when police arrived.  Jennings County Detectives led the investigation while Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionists assisted with the crash investigation.

Evidence on scene led police to believe that Shine was struck by a Toyota truck or SUV.  After police released that information, a tip was given to law enforcement that a possible suspect vehicle, belonging to Richard D. White, age 55, was located at his residence in Jefferson County.  Police located the vehicle at the residence and were able to obtain a search warrant for the vehicle.  After the vehicle was seized, evidence linking White and the vehicle to the crash was obtained.

The investigation ultimately led to an arrest warrant be issued in the Jennings County Circuit Court for Richard White on a charge of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death-Level 5 Felony.

Yesterday, White was arrested on the warrant and transported to the Jennings County Jail where he then posted bond.

An Arrest photo may be obtained by contacting the Jennings County Jail.

Police Searching for Vehicle/Driver that Struck Pedestrian

Jennings County-Early this morning, September 16, 2018, the Indiana State Police and Jennings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious personal injury crash on US 50 near Hayden where a pedestrian was apparently struck by a vehicle that left the scene of the crash.

The investigation began at approximately 4:38 A.M. when the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a person along the roadway on US 50 near County Road 700 West.  When the deputies arrived on scene, they located a male, later identified as Davon Lee Shine, age 24, North Vernon, Indiana, lying along the roadway.  Evidence at the scene indicated that he was struck by a Toyota that was traveling eastbound on US 50.  The vehicle that struck him was not on scene when law enforcement arrived.  Investigators believe the Toyota may have noticeable front end damage but no other information about the vehicle is available.

Shine was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital in critical condition before later passing away as a result of his injuries.  Shine’s family has been notified.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help in locating the vehicle and driver that struck Shine.  Police also would like to speak with anyone that saw Shine in the area of the crash early this morning or had information about where he was coming from or going.
