This sentence demonstrates that accountability must take precedence

Jefferson County, Indiana – Jonathan Reckers, 45, of Madison, Indiana, was convicted of Dealing in Methamphetamine, a Level 2 Felony, and sentenced in Jefferson County Circuit Court by Judge Mote to 18 years in the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC).
The 18-year sentence follows an investigation that led to the execution of a search warrant at Reckers’ residence. During the search, officers located methamphetamine, controlled substances, and other items associated with the packaging, distribution, and use of illegal drugs.
Under Indiana law, Level 2 dealing in methamphetamine requires the amount of the drug involved to be ten (10) grams or more. The methamphetamine found in Reckers’ residence far exceeded that minimum. In Reckers’ bedroom, officers located a multicolored bag labeled
“SOUR PATCH KIDS” containing approximately 50 grams of methamphetamine. Also found in the same room were baggies with various labeling and other small baggies containing white residue.
The search also uncovered other drug-related items and substances throughout the residence. Particularly concerning were the substances recovered from a bedroom that appeared to be where a child was residing, as evidenced by the presence of a crib, infant swing, toys, and children’s clothing in the closet and dresser. Officers located marijuana, baggies, and a cut straw inside a dresser that contained children’s clothing. Additionally, officers found packaged marijuana products, smoking devices, a prescription bottle that did not belong to Reckers, a broken white
pill identified by Reckers as Xanax, several cut straws, and multiple scales in other rooms of the residence.
“The quantity of illegal drugs recovered from Reckers’ residence, along with the packaging materials, scales, and other items located throughout the home, was consistent with drug dealing, not simply personal use. Dealers fuel the substance abuse crisis in our community by putting
more drugs into circulation. Holding dealers accountable reduces the supply of illegal drugs reaching those struggling with substance use and makes our community safer,” said Prosecutor David Sutter.
Reckers has an extensive criminal history spanning more than twenty years. It includes prior drug convictions, among them methamphetamine offenses, as well as driving-related and violent offenses. Over the years, Reckers was given multiple opportunities through suspended sentences and alternatives to incarceration. He repeatedly violated the terms of those sentences, which led to revocations and time at the Indiana Department of Correction.
On October 30, 2026, Jonathan Reckers pleaded guilty to Dealing in Methamphetamine, a Level 2 Felony, and was convicted and sentenced in Jefferson County Circuit Court by Judge DJ Mote to 18 years in the Indiana Department of Correction.
“Mr. Reckers has been given numerous opportunities over the years to change the direction of his life and address his criminal behavior. Unfortunately, those opportunities did not result in positive change and have only seen his criminal history grow. This sentence demonstrates that accountability must take precedence when opportunities for rehabilitation have repeatedly been unsuccessful,” said Prosecutor Sutter.
