Continued investment in local parks and recreational facilities

Madison, Indiana (November 5, 2026) — The Common Council of the City of Madison approved two bond ordinances Wednesday evening, November 4, supporting the City’s 2027 Parks Investment Strategy and its continued investment in local parks and recreational facilities.
The two ordinances authorize up to $7,525,000 in combined bond financing through General Obligation Bonds and Park District Bonds to support capital projects and improvements throughout Madison’s park system.
The Park Bonds will fund improvements at Rucker Sports Complex, John Paul Park, Sunrise Golf Course, Stucker Tennis Courts, Kiwanis Park, and other park projects and related improvements. Additional funding will come from grants and donations.
The 2027 Parks Investment Strategy outlines both continued and new investments throughout the City’s park system. Continued investments include Damon L. Welch Park, Kiwanis Park, and the Indiana Music City Amphitheater at Bicentennial Park. New investments include Rucker Sports Complex, Sunrise Golf Course, City Tennis Courts at Shawe Memorial, John Paul Park, and funding for a Capital Reserve.
“Our parks are an important part of what makes Madison a great place to live, work, and visit. Through this investment strategy, we're continuing to improve the parks and facilities our community already enjoys while planning for new opportunities in the years ahead. These
investments reflect our commitment to providing quality of life investments for our residents and future generations,” said Mayor Bob Courtney. “We worked very hard to minimize the impact on homeowners by identifying over $6.1 million from other sources for these projects.”
Through the 2027 Parks Investment Strategy, the City is working to maintain and improve existing facilities while making new investments that support recreational opportunities and enhance the community for residents and visitors.
Additional project details and updates will be shared as plans move forward.
