City of Madison City Hall to Reopen Doors to the Public

(Madison, Ind.) – City Hall reopened its doors to the public this morning but is doing so under specific guidelines established by Mayor Bob Courtney.

“City Hall has continued to provide essential services to our community, but we are ready to begin phase one of reopening our city. This will be a very gradual reopening and we will continue to monitor the situation and follow all social distancing guidelines set forth by Governor Holcomb and the CDC.  We want to be available for our citizens as the local economy starts to reopen and safety will continue to be our top priority,” said Mayor Courtney.

City Hall will be open to the public between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Residents are encouraged to continue to utilize the drive-through window for payments as often as possible. If you are needing to meet with a specific department it is encouraged you call ahead to ensure that the department is available.

All visitors to City Hall must enter and exit via the front door and are asked not to enter the building if you are exhibiting any signs of COVID-19 or other contagious health issues such as the flu or a cold.

City Hall will continue to be cleaned daily and restrooms will not be accessible to the public.

All counters will be fitted with plastic shields to separate the public from the staff and there will only be five visitors allowed inside. Markers will be placed on the floor to ensure visitors maintain a 6-foot distance from one another and barriers will be in place to prevent mingling in the common area.

All public meetings will continue to be conducted virtually until further notice.

The city campgrounds will tentatively reopen on May 24. The Brown Gym, playgrounds, basketball courts, and all public restrooms will remain closed. Sunrise Golf Course will remain open under current safe-play rules and with tee times only until 5:00 p.m.

“We need to work together to bring business back to business. Our community wants to get back to work and our small business owners are awaiting the go ahead to open their doors. Our community needs to continue to support one another during this time and take proper safety measures to ensure we can move towards reopening our economy,” said Mayor Courtney.
