21 Area Nonprofits Receive Project Funding

–The Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County awarded $210,500 in grants at their annual grants reception on September 26, to 21 nonprofit organizations that serve Jefferson County residents. With help from these grants, a wide variety of people will benefit through unique projects and initiatives.

The annual grant awards are made possible by the Community Foundation’s Flexible Community Funds and Field of Interest Endowment Funds. To be considered for funding, agencies submitted an online application and, in the case of the finalists, were visited and interviewed by members of the Foundation’s Grants Committee.

The non-profit agencies and philanthropic projects that received grant funding include: Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Jefferson County, Canaan Community Academy, Centerstone, Children’s Advocacy Center of Southeastern Indiana, Deputy Elementary School, Developmental Services, Inc., Five to the Five/Historic Hoosier Hills, Heritage Trail Conservancy, Human Relations Commission/City of Madison, Ivy Tech Community College-Madison, Jefferson County House of Hope, Jefferson County Soil & Water Conservation District, Jefferson County Southpaws 4-H Dog Club, Jefferson County Youth Shelter, Madison Performing Arts Foundation, Madison Police Department, Prince of Peace Schools, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Southwestern Middle/Senior High School Counseling, Southwestern Varsity Baseball Program, and the Town of Hanover.

“Our committee is often asked for more than twice the amount that we have available to grant,” said Grants Committee Chair and Community Foundation Board Chair Ann Suchocki. “It is an honor to serve with a committee that is committed to the process and have the challenging task of determining the best investment of grant dollars available from the Community Foundation.” A list of past grants made by the Foundation is available online at www.cfmjc.org/grants.php.
