Indianapolis Man Killed in US 421 Crash

The accident happened early Wednesday morning.

(Decatur County, Ind.) - An Indianapolis man has been identified as the victim of a fatal crash that occurred on Wednesday morning. 

The two-vehicle crash took place just before 7:00 on U.S. 421 near the Decatur and Ripley county line. 

According to Indiana State Police, Joseph Arthur was traveling southbound on U.S. 421 near County Road 700 East when for an unknown reason he lost control of the vehicle and crossed the center line into the path of a Freightliner semi pulling a trailer. 

The vehicles collided nearly head-on. 

Arthur, 47, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The Freightliner caught fire immediately following the crash. The driver was able to exit the vehicles with minor injuries. 

The crash remains under investigation.
