Crash is under investigation

At approximately 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a small aircraft crash in the vicinity of River Bottom Road and Lee Bottom Airfield in Jefferson County. Preliminary information indicates the aircraft, a Cessna 172 operated out of the Clark County area, was taking off from Lee Bottom Airfield when it crashed shortly after takeoff and struck a residence.
Upon arrival, first responders located the pilot and passenger, both of whom sustained minor injuries. No one was injured inside the home.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Hanover Fire Department, Hanover Police Department, Indiana Conservation Officers, Jefferson County Emergency Management, and Norton’s King’s Daughters’ Hospital EMS, responded to the scene.
The FAA and NTSB have been notified and are coordinating regarding the investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
