Indiana's Unemployment Rate Drops For Third Month

September employment data for Indiana counties and cities will be available Wednesday, October 21 at noon.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) – For the third month in a row, Indiana’s unemployment rate has continued to drop.

For the month of September, Indiana’s jobless rate came in at 6.2 percent, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

In August, Indiana saw an unemployment rate of 6.4 percent.

Indiana’s unemployment rate continues to remain under the national rate of 7.9 percent. According to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the national unemployment rate dropped in the month of August as well.

In August the national unemployment rate was 8.4, nationally there was a .5 percent drop in unemployment.

Indiana’s labor force had a net decrease of 19,691 over the previous month. Indiana's total labor force, which includes both Hoosiers employed and those seeking employment, stands at 3.33 million, and the state’s 63.0 percent labor force participation rate remains above the national rate of 61.4 percent.
