Inmate Apprehended After Escape From Sheriff Transport

On October 16, 2019 at approximately 12:15 p.m. Erica Stidham escaped from custody during a transport from Jefferson County Jail to Decatur County Jail.


The incident took place near the intersection of US Hwy 421 and E County Rd 300 S in Decatur County Indiana as Stidham was being transferred to Decatur County Jail to be housed there.


Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Greensburg Police Department, and Indiana State Police established a containment perimeter. The Indiana State Police utilized their Aviation and K-9 units.


At approximately 1:40 p.m., Greensburg’s K-9 Team located Stidham hiding in an out building of a property inside the established perimeter.


Decatur County Sheriff’s Department is seeking criminal charges of escape due to the event happening within Decatur County Indiana.


Sheriff Dave Thomas states, “The Sheriff’s office will be conducting an in investigation conjunction to Decatur County Sheriff’s Department’s investigation.”
