(Carrollton, Ky.) - Due to the annual "Scouting for Food" door-to-door food drive, and the Carroll County Schools' canned food collection for the Food Pantry of Carroll County, Inc. being canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, local businesses are asking the community-at-large to set up and donate canned food items this week for the pantry.

"We appreciate donations to the Food Pantry as we have stayed open this entire year to help those needing food in our community," said Ruth H. Baxter, Treasurer for the Pantry. "Requests for food have made demands on the Food Pantry supplies. Due to COVID issues, we have been serving folks outside in the parking lot with our dedicated volunteers wearing masks and gloves to minimize risk. We remain open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. using all volunteer help and we also have volunteers packing and distributing commodities to those eligible on the third Wednesday of each month."

Local businesses will be helping with the donations by placing boxes in their lobbies for the public to donate food.

Items that are needed this year are items that don't require cooking including peanut butter, jelly, canned meat and tuna, canned or boxed fruit, cereal, and crackers. Businesses that are are seeking donations include:

  • Carroll County Public Library, 136 Court Street
  • First National Bank of Kentucky, 614 Highland Avenue
  • Crawford & Baxter, P.S.C, 523 Highland Avenue
  • Carroll County Memorial Hospital, 301 11th Street
  • Farmers Bank of Milton, 1935 Highway 227
  • Carrollton Federal Bank, 2539 Highway 227, and
  • Carroll County Water District #1 in Ghent

All donations are asked to be placed in the boxes by Friday, November 20.

If you would like to make a financial contribution to the Food Pantry you can do so by mailing checks to the pantry at P.O. Box 265, Carrollton, or deliver contributions to Mrs. Baxter's office at 523 Highland Ave, Carrollton.

All donations are tax-deductible.
