(Madison, Ind.) - On December 17, a Madison man was arrested after crashing his vehicle while fleeing from officers through Ripley and Jefferson Counties.
At approximately 6:00 p.m. Sergeant Jared Black with the Indiana State Police observed a vehicle traveling southbound on US 421 at a high rate of speed. When attempting to conduct a traffic stop, the driver Shane Melton, 32, continued to flee from the officer into Jefferson county.
The pursuit lasted nearly 14 miles. Before approaching Madison, Melton lost control and crashed his vehicle attempting to navigate the round-a-bout on US 421 and State Route 62.
Sergeant Black took Melton into custody without further incident with assistance from the Madison Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
