(Jefferson County, Ind.) - On August 25, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Linton Spry began an investigation into an alleged incident of child abuse. During the course of the investigation, Deputy Spry obtained a search warrant for a residence in Jefferson County where evidence was collected that was associated with the crime. Deputy Spry requested the assistance of Detective Yancy Denning with this investigation.
On August 26, Det. Yancy Denning conducted an interview with the suspect 21-year-old Kayla M Crawn of Madison.
During the interview, Crawn admitted to tying a child down in a car seat as a form of punishment. Crawn admitted to doing this 20 times to the child. Each time leaving the child in the tied in the seat for up to 30 minutes at a time.
After the interview Det. Yancy Denning placed Crawn under arrest and turned her over to the Jefferson County Jail where she awaits her initial hearing.
Crawn faces the following charges; 1 count of Criminal Confinement causing moderate bodily injury (level 4 felony), 20 counts of Criminal Confinement (level 5 felony), 1 county of Battery (level 5 felony), and 1 count of Neglect of a dependent.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Jefferson County Indiana Division of Child Services, the Jefferson County Prosecutors Office, and the Children's Advocacy Center of Southeastern Indiana.
