(Jefferson County, Ind.) - Jefferson County Emergency Management (JCEM) reports that the National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed a tornado touchdown in Jefferson County at approximately 3:22 a.m. on June 18.
Emergency crews conducted initial assessments in the early morning hours and continue to survey affected areas for damage. Response agencies, including fire departments, law enforcement, EMS, Highway and Street Departments, are actively engaged in damage assessment, debris clearance, and ensuring public safety.
- Use caution when traveling, as roads may be obstructed by debris or downed power lines
- Over 7,000 residents are without power.
- Report hazards or significant damage to local authorities
- Monitor official communication channels for ongoing updates
If you encounter downed power lines, treat them as energized and stay clear. Report outages directly to your utility provider.
JCEM is coordinating with local, state, and federal partners to assess damages and determine the need for additional resources. Further information regarding damage reports, road closures, and assistance resources will be released as it becomes available.
