(Scott County, Ind.) - Yesterday, the Scott County Health Department received documentation that the county has its first confirmed COVID-19 related death.

The patient was a resident of a long term care facility and had pre-existing health conditions which put the patient in a high-risk category for complications.

The resident had been hospitalized for care when they passed.

Scott County health officer, Dr. R. Kevin Rogers, stated "We send condolences to the family and friends of the one who passed. This is a glaring reminder of the severity of this disease. The community must listen to the guidance of the experts and practice all the ways not to spread this disease including wearing a mask and practicing social distancing. We all must protect those who are most vulnerable."
