INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Stephanie Bibbs has been named the Chair of the Ivy Tech Community College State Board of Trustees. Bibbs is the first Black woman to serve as the Chair of the Ivy Tech Board.

The State Board of Trustees comprises 15 members from around the state, appointed by the governor. Each trustee must have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas: manufacturing, commerce, labor, agriculture, state and regional economic development needs, and/or Indiana’s educational delivery system.

Bibbs is a native of Indiana with more than seventeen years of legal experience in the public and private sectors. She is a fierce advocate for justice and has dedicated her career to the pursuit of equality and justice for all. She is currently the Chief of Criminal Charging for the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

“Access to education has and will always be a vital part of moving our communities forward. Ivy Tech is essential in providing the proper credentialing and skilling up students to meet the demands of our Hoosier workforce. I’m honored to serve on the Board in this capacity and look forward to continuing the great work of my predecessors,” said Bibbs.

Prior to her current role, Bibbs was the founder and owner of a law office in Anderson, Ind. Her legal knowledge and experience are vast and diverse as she has served as a public defender and deputy prosecuting attorney in Madison County, Ind. Prior to law school, she worked in Washington, D.C. at an international law firm in the securities litigation division.

Bibbs is a true leader and has a heart for serving her community. She previously served as vice chair on the Ivy Tech State Board of Trustees and is a past president for the Madison County Bar Association. As a former adjunct instructor, she is an advocate for student success in the classroom and workforce. She stays actively involved in various other organizations and has a passion for mentoring young women. When she is not working or serving the community, she enjoys exercising and spending time with her family. She and her husband reside in Anderson, Ind.

Bibbs replaced Terry W. Anker as the Chair after he served in that role for two years.

The State Board also announced Andrew W. Wilson as vice chair and Kim Emmert O’Dell as secretary.
