Traffic signal improvements coming to U.S. 421 and Main Street Downtown

Change is being made to improve both vehicular and pedestrian mobility and safety

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces upcoming traffic signal improvements at the intersection of U.S. 421 and Main Street in Madison.

On or after Wednesday, May 6, crews will begin installing new signal heads at the intersection. This change will allow motorists to make left turns from southbound U.S. 421, westbound Main Street, and eastbound Main Street under a green designated left turn arrow.

The signals will also allow left turns to be made at these locations on green when vehicles are not approaching.

This change is being made to improve both vehicular and pedestrian mobility and safety in Madison. Intermittent single lane closures will be used for up to two days, while improvement work is in progress.

INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones. All work is weather dependent and schedules are subject to change.
