Louisville Man’s Body Recovered from Private Pond in Southeast Indiana

Conservation officers responded to the incident last Saturday morning.

(Southeast Indiana) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an incident that claimed the life of a Louisville man Saturday in southeast Indiana

At approximately 11:22 a.m., conservation officers responded to a private pond in Rising Sun after receiving a report of tire tracks leading into the water.

First responders from multiple agencies arrived and began search operations for a vehicle. Using sonar technology, conservation officers located the vehicle submerged in approximately 10 feet of water. Near the vehicle, the body of Michael Downey, 48, of Louisville, was recovered.

An autopsy completed today confirmed the cause of death to be drowning. The incident remains under investigation.

Assisting agencies included the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department, East Enterprise Fire Department, Switzerland County Emergency Response, and the Switzerland County Coroner’s Office.
