Updates to the 2020 Indiana Arts Homecoming and Governor’s Arts Awards

(Indianapolis, IN) - The Indiana Arts Commission announces that the 2020 Indiana Arts Homecoming will be moved online and the 2020 Governor’s Arts Awards ceremony has been rescheduled for the fall of 2021.

This decision was made as a result of the ever-changing nature of the novel COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the safety and health of attendees and presenters. Representatives from Columbus, Indiana; the Homecoming steering committee; and the Governor’s Office saw the digitization of Homecoming and the postponement of the Awards as a creative solution to a challenging time.

“Gatherings are the heartbeat of community, and the arts nurture communities that are engaged and meaningful,” said Rishard Allen, Manager of Grant Services & Education Partnerships for the Arts Council of Indianapolis and steering committee co-chair. “That’s why it’s so important for us to pivot Homecoming to still give everyone the opportunity to gather, even if it’s virtually.”

The Indiana Arts Homecoming will still take place in October 2020. Registration for the online conference will be free.

“Seeing how deftly arts organizations and artists have adapted to this ‘new normal’ has been inspiring. We’re looking forward to seeing how our community will continue to rally together in this new conference format.” said Aili McGill, Executive Director, Nickel Plate Arts, and steering committee co-chair.

More details on the 2020 Homecoming will be available in the coming months, including updates on the call for proposals, conference format, and other opportunities to connect to the community.

The 2021 Indiana Arts Homecoming and Governor’s Arts Awards will be held in Columbus, IN. “We’re looking forward to sharing our creative community with the rest of the state when we know we can gather and connect safely. We have so much to look forward to,” commented Sherry Stark, IAC Commissioner, Columbus.
