The Madison Trolley Line is celebrating its first anniversary, marking one year of connecting residents and visitors to the heart of Madison through engaging, accessible, and experience-driven transportation.

Launched on May 5, 2025, the Madison Trolley Line debuted with a core lineup of programming that included guided historical tours, Summer Sundays, Fourth Fridays, and Clifty Days. What began as a new way to explore the community has quickly grown into a dynamic and evolving offering, with expanded programming designed to meet both visitor interest and local engagement.

Over the past year, the trolley has introduced a variety of new experiences, including the widely successful Haunted Rides on the Trolley Line, seasonal trips to Stream Cliff, and the Holly Jolly Trolley as part of the Merry Madison holiday celebration. These additions have helped establish the trolley not only as a mode of transportation, but as a unique and memorable way to experience Madison throughout the year.

In its first year of operation, the Madison Trolley Line has welcomed 2,833 paid riders and more than 2,500 free riders, reinforcing its dual role as both a tourism asset and a community resource. The trolley has hosted 64 group rentals and 34 weddings, completed 491 guided tours, supported 14 boat visits, and offered nearly three dozen free ride days for residents and visitors alike.

“The first year of the trolley has been incredibly rewarding,” said Lyndsey Ritchie, Marketing and Trolley Coordinator for Visit Madison, who oversaw the launch as well as day-to-day operations. “It’s been a lot of work, a lot of learning, and a lot of fun all at the same time. We’ve been building something new while actively running it, which has come with its challenges, but also a lot of excitement as we’ve seen how the community and visitors have embraced it.”

Ritchie added, “What’s been most meaningful is seeing the trolleys become a true community asset. Whether it’s someone attending their first event, a couple celebrating their wedding day, or families enjoying a free ride downtown, the trolleys are creating moments that people remember. We’re really excited to continue growing this program through partnerships and collaborations that allow us to expand what we offer while keeping it accessible and engaging for everyone.”

As the Madison Trolley Line enters its second year, the focus remains on refining programming, strengthening partnerships, and continuing to build on the momentum of its first year. With a clear demand for experience-based offerings and a strong foundation in place, the trolley is positioned to continue evolving as a key part of Madison’s tourism and community landscape.
