BASEBALL: 

Madison Baseball Cubs dropped 2 yesterday in a double header against Jeffersonville. The scores were 9-8 and 7-6. 

Both games were won by Jeffersonville in the bottom of the 7th. 

Here are the game breakdowns.

Game 1 - Jeffersonville 9 - Madison 8

Madison Cubs fell to Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils 9-8 on Saturday on the final play of the game.  The game was tied at eight with Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils batting in the bottom of the seventh when Jaden Hart singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Despite the loss, Madison Cubs did collect nine hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils had 13 hits on the way to victory.

Madison Cubs fired up the offense in the first inning.  Drew Forner drove in one when Forner singled.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils tied things up at eight when Aidan Niemi singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Madison Cubs put up six runs in the fourth inning.  Madison Cubs offense in the inning was led by Mitchell Cammack, Colin Yancey, Liam Murphy, and Nick Johnson, who all drove in runs.

Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils scored four runs in the sixth inning.  The big inning for Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils came thanks to a walk by Kyle Campbell, a single by Niemi, and a sacrifice fly by Hart.

Quinn Lemon was the winning pitcher for Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils. The fireballer went three and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out three and walking zero.


Ben Orrill started the game for Madison Cubs. The righthander lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out five and walking one Hunter Flowers started the game for Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils. Flowers allowed five hits and five runs over three and a third innings, striking out three

Yancey went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Madison Cubs in hits.

Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils scattered 13 hits in the game.  Ryan Crawford, Caiden White, Niemi, and Hart all had multiple hits for Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils.

Game 2 

Jeffersonville 7 - Madison 6

Madison Cubs fell to Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils 7-6 on Saturday on the final play of the game.  The game was tied at six with Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils batting in the bottom of the seventh when Brett Denby singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.

Madison Cubs collected five hits and Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils had ten in the high-scoring affair.

Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils opened up an early lead in the second inning when Dakota Pitman singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Cole Singleton was the winning pitcher for Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils. Singleton surrendered one run on one hit over two and a third innings.  Lane Jaggers and Kyle Campbell entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Jaden Hart started the game for Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils. The righty went two and a third innings, allowing three runs on one hit and striking out three Drew Forner started the game for Madison Cubs. Forner surrendered three runs on seven hits over four and a third innings, striking out one

Mitchell Cammack, Colin Yancey, Myles Barnes, Nick Johnson, and Liam Murphy each collected one hit to lead Madison Cubs.  

Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils totaled ten hits.  Hart and Durbin each managed multiple hits for Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils.  Hart led Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils with three hits in three at bats.  

Coach Harsin's comments "All in all we had very good day. We as a collective group are going in the right direction. Hats off to Coach Shane Stock's club. We had them down both games late. They didn't quit. We did a lot of things well today. We were just a fortunate break away from coming back home with 2 wins on the day". 

 

Shawe Memorial traveled to Trimble County Saturday night for a non-conference matchup. The Hilltoppers fell behind early and their comeback fell a run short as they lost 9-8.  Philip Kahn started on the mound and took the loss giving up 8 runs, 3 earned while allowing 8 hits. He struck out 6 and walked one.  At the plate, Shawe was led by Sam Fewell who tripled, singled and scored 2 runs.The Hill brothers,Casey and Tyler, each had a single and 2 RBIs.

Kahn added an RBI single to round out the scoring for the Hilltoppers.  Shawe Memorial plays  at Assumption Academy of Kentucky Tuesday.

“ I thought our pitching was strong again today-Kahn and Hertz pitched well.  Philip deserved a better fate. He battled for four innings.  We just didn’t make enough plays behind him. Jacob threw well in relief.  We had a bad inning, the 4th, where we had 3 errors which led to 5 unearned runs.  We will clean things up next practice.”
