Recap:

Overall, tonight was an improvement and a step in the right direction for our girls. Hannah and Kayla both shot personal bests. Ximena had a couple of holes that got the best of her but she did a great job of overcoming the mental side of the game and finished her round strong.

I am especially proud of our girls for assisting the New Washington team, some of whom have only started playing golf 5 days ago, with questions about rules, scoring, and advice to improve their game. Hannah, Kayla, and Ximena provided great examples of sportsmanship, high character, and represented Southwestern well.

Southwestern finished as the runner-up in Saturday's Volleyball tournament held at Southwestern.

Quote: I am very happy with the way we played today to kick off the season. The tournament was very competitive this year and I thought our girls did a great job working and communicating together. Kylie Eccles was our most solid player today.  She did a great job offensively, defensively, and serving for us. Meaghan Kramer was the glue that held everything together today on the court and I'm sure she will be throughout the season.  I was proud of the entire team today.  I saw positive things from everyone.

Southwestern begins the season 2-1 and hosts South Dearborn on Monday with JV beginning at 6pm.

Southwestern Girls Soccer Opens Season With Loss To Corydon

We opened our season at Corydon today. Kearstin Cizek scored on a great shot after receiving a pass from Cadence Humes. Short on numbers and limping with injuries, our team played hard and gained valuable learning experiences, despite the 10-1 loss. Some other highlights were seeing good play by Kaylee DeWeese even in new positions and by Brianna Johnson in her first game.

Madison Girls Golf Hosted the Madison Invite At Sunrise Golf Course they place 2nd behind behind Floyd Central whom won the Invite.

Coach Jake Shockley had this to say about the invitation:

Second place was a good result today all things considered. I wasn't expecting us to be very sharp today after the heat affected us earlier in the week. We had a light practice Wednesday and had to reschedule Jeffersonville on Thursday. I'm pretty glad to break 400 today in all honesty. Floyd Central is a really strong team, and we knew that going in. For the most part, it was always a battle for second place for everybody else.

Keara has very high standards for herself, and I know she really wanted medalist today. It just wasn't in the cards for her. She's had a great start to the season, though, and Coach Barger and I want her to focus on all of the good she has done so far.

Gracie and Lilly came up really big today with personal bests today. They visited Coach (Dale) Crafton earlier in the week. Obviously, he had a big effect. I think those two, and really the whole team, are just going to continue to get better.  The goal is always to get everybody playing well together by the end of the season. Hopefully, we can make that happen.

The results of the match can be found (here) Madison Results highlighted.
