Drew Kring Hired as New Shawe Varsity Girls Basketball Coach

Shawe Memorial High School is proud to announce Mr. Drew Kring as our new Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach!

     Coach Kring is no stranger to basketball and is a lifelong member of the Shawe family as an alumnus of Shawe Memorial’s 2006 graduating class. He has a wealth of basketball knowledge and experience playing at both the high school and collegiate level as well as a five-year stint coaching as a high school boys assistant. During his four years as a Hilltopper he was a standout player within the Ohio River Valley Conference earning numerous accolades. Kring was part of two Sectional Championship teams (2002-03 & 2005-06), one ORVC Championship team (2005-06), he was a two-time member of the ORVC All Conference Team (2004-05, 2005-06), became a member of the coveted 1000 Point Club, and is third on Shawe’s All-Time Career Points Leaderboard with 1,216. Upon graduating in 2006, Kring attended Taylor University for one year before transferring to Transylvania University. Kring played basketball his freshman year as a Trojan and then his junior and senior years for the Pioneers before returning to Madison where he started his career with Farm Bureau Insurance and took up coaching as Shawe Memorial’s Assistant Boys Basketball coach from 2010-2015. After work forced him to relocate to Bloomington, IN for a few years, Coach Kring once again returns to his hometown with his wife, Kristin, and two children where they plan to put down roots.

     “We are thrilled to announce Drew Kring as our new Girls Varsity Basketball Coach! He is a great addition to our school’s coaching staff and a valued member throughout the entire community. We are excited to see what all he can accomplish. Drew has high expectations for our girls’ team and he’s very dedicated to continuing to grow the program and take them to the next level. His plans and visions to build on our young talented program and help each of the girls achieve their goals both academically and athletically are very encouraging. Drew is highly regarded throughout the Hilltopper Family and we know he will have a positive influence on these girls both on and off the court” says Athletic Director Jamison Bower. “We believe we found the perfect long term candidate in Drew Kring, and are confident he will continue to lead the program in the right direction for many years to come.”

     Coach Kring will assume his role as head coach immediately and plans to start working with the girls as soon as possible.

  “I am humbled and appreciative of the opportunity to build the program at Shawe. It is a great group of girls, and I cannot wait to be a part of their journey. I have high expectations, both on and off the court, and I believe this team has the ability to be extremely successful” says Coach Kring
