Turkey Shootout games are typically a Thanksgiving holiday tradition.

(Madison, Ind.) - Madison and Southwestern announce postponement and 2021 dates for the annual Turkey Shootout games.

In a joint statement, Madison Athletic Director Joe Bronkella and Southwestern Athletic Director Tom Scroggins announce new dates for the annual Turkey Shootout games which are typically a Thanksgiving holiday tradition.

“Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we had already rescheduled the games to stagger the girls and boys games on different dates as a way to control crowd numbers”, explained Bronkella. “After the Governor’s mandate announced yesterday specifically addressing high school basketball game attendance limiting crowd size to 25% of the venue capacity for counties in orange status, we met to discuss if moving forward with the originally planned dates was the right thing to do. After careful consideration of the county numbers, new state-level mandates, and with an abundance of caution for the health and safety of our athletes and fans, our schools jointly decided it would be in the best interest of our community to once again reschedule the games,” Bronkella continued. “The health and safety of our students is our first priority,” both Bronkella and Scroggins shared.

The boys game will be moved to Friday, January 22, 2021 and the girls game will be played on Saturday, January 30, 2021.

“We are hopeful that by moving the games further into the season we will be in a better position as a community to host larger events and accommodate more fans for both games,” Bronkella added. “We are asking all families throughout our community to be diligent with health and safety recommendations by washing hands frequently, wearing a mask, maintaining social distance, keeping your social circles to those in your immediate family, and if you are feeling ill - please stay home.”
