Carroll County Schools Making Changes To Virtual Learning Curriculum

As a result of this change, parents and guardians now have until 3:00 p.m. on August 18 to choose between In-Person/Distance Learning and Virtual School for the fall semester.

(Carroll County, Ky.) - Carroll County School District has announced a recent change to the Virtual School option for students.

Those students who chose the Virtual School option will now use the Edgenuity web-based curriculum instead of the original K12 curriculum that was communicated with families.

Edgenuity has similar features to the K12 curriculum, such as incorporating teacher videos, integrating class meetings, and supplemental lessons. There is supports built-in for Special Education, English Language Learners and Advanced Learners.

This program is already used by the high school, so they are familiar with the components offered for grades 6-12. The school has also been exploring the recently added virtual curriculum for grades K-5, called PathBlazers.

“We initially planned to use the company K12 for our Virtual School option,” said Superintendent Danny Osborne. “Along with other school districts in the region, we were running this agreement through the Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative. Unfortunately, the details of this agreement have not been finalized, which creates uncertainty regarding the pricing and availability of the resource in a timely manner. In order for us to ensure that we all have the necessary access to the online platform on Aug. 26, and also in order to ensure that we are good stewards of taxpayer funds, we are moving forward with the Edgenuity platform.”

As a result of this change, parents and guardians now have until 3:00 p.m. on August 18 to choose between In-Person/Distance Learning and Virtual School for the fall semester.
