(Boone County, Ky.) - A Cincinnati man has been indicted on two charges stemming from a fatal vehicle accident in July of 2023.

Earlier this month, a Boone County Jury indicted Ricky Raider, 37, of Cincinnati, on one count of Leaving the Scene of an Accident / Failure to Render Aide with Death or Serious Physical Injury (Class D Felony) and one county of Persistent Felony Offender 1st Degree.

The charges stem from an accident on July 16, 2023 that claimed the life of Lauren Collins, 18, of Independence. Collins' vehicle was struck by a tire while traveling along Interstate 75.

Shortly after the accident, Raider allegedly admitted to investigators that "he lost a tire on the interstate over the past weekend but did not believe his tire had hit anyone."

Months later, investigators obtained a recorded phone call between Raider and a female inmate at the Bullitt County Detention Center. During their conversation, which took place on July 16, 2023, Raider allegedly admitted that he was traveling northbound on I-75 when the tire dismounted from his Ford F-250. He went on to say that he witnessed the tire collide with Collins' vehicle and knew the collision likely resulted in someone being hurt or killed.

After the collision, his tire rested near the concrete barrier that divides the interstate and Raider fled the scene after mounting the tire back onto his truck.

He is currently held in the Boone County Detention Center on $40,000 cash bond.
