City of Madison Launches Outreach Program for the Elderly and Homebound

For those needing medication pickup, the Madison Police Department is stepping in to assist.

(Madison, Ind.)—The City of Madison launched a Community Outreach Program to assist the elderly and those who are homebound during the Public Health Emergency. 

The program is for City of Madison residents who are elderly, have compromised immune systems, or have small children at home and need a little extra help with pickup and delivery of essential items such as groceries, meals, general hygiene items, and pet supplies. 

On Monday, green and red cards will begin being delivered to households within city limits. The purpose of the cards is to let public safety officers and your neighbors know if you are okay or if you need help during this time. Detailed instructions are being included with the cards. 

“The city has put together a Community Outreach Division to distribute the cards and help with the pickup and delivery of essential items. However, this really is a community effort, if you notice your neighbor is displaying a red card, see if they need help or call our outreach division to let us know you have a neighbor in need. You can also sign up to volunteer for the program,” said City of Madison Chief of Staff Mindy McGee.

For those needing medication pickup, the Madison Police Department is stepping in to assist. Individuals must first contact their pharmacy to arrange for their prescriptions to be filled and to pay in advance. When calling, individuals must inform the pharmacy that an MPD officer will be picking up their prescription. 

“We feel it is extremely important to help the most vulnerable during this time. We do not want to see seniors and those with a compromised immune system out, exposing themselves to the virus. Our law enforcement officers are happy to take the lead to ensure those in need of medications receive them on time while remaining safe,” said Madison Police Chief John Wallace.
