FATAL ACCIDENT IN JENNINGS COUNTY CLAIMS LIFE OF THREE YEAR OLD

On October 28, 2023 at approximately 8:16 pm. The Jennings County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on CR 1000W south of CR 200N. Upon arrival Deputies located a 2016 Nissan Rogue that had been involved in a single vehicle crash.

The initial investigation shows that the Nissan, being driven by Lisa Ely of Seymour, was traveling northbound on CR 1000W when it left the right side of the roadway, struck a culvert, then went airborne striking a tree. The Nissan then came to rest on the west side of the roadway.

As a result of the crash, 3-year-old Thomas Ely sustained fatal injuries.

A male juvenile and a female juvenile sustained serious injuries and were transported to Schneck Hospital before being transported to Riley Hospital for further treatment. None of the children were properly restrained.

Lisa Ely was transported to Schneck hospital for treatment before being transported to an Indianapolis area hospital for additional treatment.

This investigation is ongoing and toxicology results are pending.

The Jennings County Sheriff's Office would like to remind drivers and parent’s, of the importance of ensuring their children are properly restrained in the proper equipment for their age.

The Jennings County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Rescue 20, Spencer Fire Department, Indiana State Police, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Redding Fire Department, Jackson County EMS, and the Seymour Police Department.
