Fatal Crash in Jennings County Claims Two People

Toxicology results are pending on both drivers

On January 1, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Jennings County Deputies responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on US 50 near CR 20 W. This resulted in the death of the two drivers.

The initial investigation by the Jennings County Crash Reconstruction Team revealed that a 2016 Toyota Camry driven by Hauley Reynolds, 31 of Columbus, traveling westbound on US 50, crossed the center line and struck an eastbound 2008 Nissan Altima being driven by Billy L Sexton III, 32, of North Vernon. This resulted in the death of both drivers. A passenger in Sexton’s vehicle was transported from the scene and flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

US 50 was closed for approximately two and a half hours for investigation and scene clean up. Jennings County Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Indiana State Police, Rescue 20 EMS, North Vernon Fire Department, North Vernon Police Department, Jennings County Coroner’s Office, and Lucas Towing.

The investigation is ongoing at this time and toxicology results are pending on both drivers.
