Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott presented a FedEx Driver with an award for his actions in November 2025 when he assisted a trooper who was being actively attacked by a male suspect on a rural Ripley County roadway.

The incident on November 19, 2025, began when a suspect allegedly intentionally rammed a vehicle in Jefferson County, Indiana and then struck a pedestrian with his vehicle when he left the scene.  Sergeant David Meyer, Indiana State Police-Versailles District, soon located the suspect along Michigan Road near County Road 900 South in southern Ripley County.

The suspect physically attacked Sgt. Meyer.  Both Sgt. Meyer and the suspect went to the ground where Sgt. Meyer sustained a severe shoulder injury.  The suspect stuck his fingers in Sgt. Meyer’s eyes and attempted to gain control of Sgt. Meyer’s handgun.

A FedEx driver, Stanton Loder III, was making deliveries in the area and observed the ongoing altercation, which he immediately recognized as being a life or death struggle for Sgt. Meyer.  Without hesitation, Loder ran approximately 100 yards to the scene and immediately placed the suspect in a hold that allowed Sgt. Meyer to get to his feet and handcuff the suspect.

Lt. Paul Adams, Commander of the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post said, “The Indiana State Police and our communities are forever grateful to Mr. Loder for his heroic actions in assisting a trooper in need and we are honored to present him with an award today.”

The suspect faces multiple charges in Jefferson and Ripley Counties as a result of the subsequent investigations.
