A brief program starts at 7:30 p.m. which includes the  presentation of the coveted Reindollar Preservation Awards for 2020 and 2021.

The Shrewsbury-Windle House is celebrated as one of America’s most important 19th century homes.  “Madison is the most diverse assembly of high-quality Grecian [architecture] to be found anywhere in America” wrote Roger Kennedy in his book Greek Revival in America.  The Shrewsbury-Windle House is the “best of the best” of our nation’s Greek Revival style buildings stated Marsh Davis, President of Indiana Landmarks, one of the most prestigious historic preservation organizations in the U.S.

                                                                                                         MORE

Built by Charles L. Shrewsbury for his wife and family and designed by Francis Costigan, perhaps Indiana’s best known pre-Civil War architect, the home had only three owners until deeded to Historic Madison, Inc. in 2011.

John and Ann Windle founded HMI in the home at a $100 per plate dinner in 1960 in order to save the ca. 1818 Judge Jeremiah Sullivan House from demolition.  The 60th Anniversary Gala, delayed two years by COVID, is a wonderful way to pay tribute to the Windle’s accomplishments in preserving Madison’s stunning architecture while enjoying one of the finest Greek Revival buildings in the country.

Historic Madison, Inc. is a not-for-profit historic preservation organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of Madison’s architectural heritage.  HMI is pleased to acknowledge the following sponsors for the Preservation Gala:  Morgan Foods, Repp &  Mundt, German American Wealth Advisory Group, Arvin-Sango Foundation, Goelzer Investment Management, Arsee Engineers, Church Mutual Insurance, Koehler Tire, Steinhardt Heating & Air Conditioning, and Ratio Design.  For additional information about the event, contact Historic Madison, Inc. today at (812) 265-2967 or by email at hmi@historicmadisoninc.com, or visit the website www.historicmadisoninc.com
