(Madison, Ind.) - It is with much sadness, and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of one of our residents that the Jefferson County Health Department announces its second death as a result of COVID-19.

The individual was an adult who had been hospitalized as a COVID-19 patient at the time of their death.
The total positive case count for Jefferson County is currently at 72, but we anticipate at least 2 additional cases to be reported over the weekend.

The health department would like to stress that this disease is still prevalent. Positive cases are being reported daily, and this death should serve as a grim reminder of the severity of the disease.

We cannot stress enough the importance and effectiveness of wearing masks, maintaining social distance, hand hygiene, and general disinfection. We want our community to have the best possible chance to prevent another tragedy like this one from happening.
