Kentucky State Police Post 5 Investigate Fatal Collision on Interstate 71

GALLATIN COUNTY, Ky. (10/14/2023) –On October 14, 2023 Kentucky State Police Post 5 in Campbellsburg was notified by Gallatin County Dispatch of a collision near the 63 mile maker on Interstate 71 in the limits of Gallatin County.  Multiple KSP Post 5 troopers as well of other emergency personnel responded to the scene. 

The preliminary investigation indicates that a black Chevrolet Equinox was traveling north on I 71 when it struck a semi truck in the rear that was parked on the shoulder of the roadway. 

The driver of the Equinox who was identified as Breanna Lundgren, a 20 year old female of Palms Michigan, was pronounced deceased on scene by the Gallatin County Coroner.  The passenger who was identified as Sarah Barnes, a 22 year old female of Opelika Alabama, was transported to the hospital for treatment where she was pronounced deceased a short time later.  Next of kin have been notified. 

This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Kentucky State Police Post 5.
