March 4, 2023, Madison Police seized approximately two-hundred-ninety grams of methamphetamine during a downtown traffic stop.

Madison Patrol Officer Curtis Shelpman observed Steven D. Singer, 39, Madison, Indiana, operating a green Dodge Durango in the area of Second and Jefferson Streets.  After confirming that Singer was operating the vehicle without a valid drivers license, Shelpman executed a traffic stop near First and Mulberry Streets.  Other occupants in the Durango were identified as Blake Johnson 36, Madison, Indiana, and Taylor Cutshall 29, Madison, Indiana.

The subsequent investigation into the stop led to the discovery of a bag containing a significant amount of a white crystal like substance, which field tested positive as methamphetamine. All three subjects were detained and ultimately transported to the Jefferson County Jail.

The seized narcotic weighed approximately 290 grams, a very significant amount that significantly outweighs the amount for personal use.  As a result, all three parties were charged with level 2 felony dealing charges.

Chief's Comment: "I am very proud of the effort put forth by these officers, this is a significant amount of narcotics removed from our community".
