National Weather Service Confirms June 18 Tornado in Carroll, Switzerland Counties

(Carroll County, Ky.) - The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado that touched down on June 18 in Carroll County, Kentucky and Switzerland County, Indiana. 

The EF-1 tornado reached peak winds around 100 miles per hour during the early morning hours of June 18.

The first sign of tornadic damage was just east of Patton Hollow Road in Switzerland County, where numerous trees were damaged. The tornado also caused notable damage occurred at two properties located off of E SR-56. Several large, hardwood trees were uprooted and/or snapped at the base. Additionally, both of these homes observed a substantial loss of roofing materials, as well as damage to their wooden porches.

The tornado would cross the Ohio River, with the next area of damage appearing in Carroll County along US Route 42 near the Ohio River where several wooden electrical power lines were downed and extensive tree damage occurred.

Just to the west of Tom Harris Road, a hillside had extensive tree damage as well. The tornado continued across rural areas east of Carrollton where additional damage occurred along State Route 36. Here, several power lines were downed along with extensive tree damage. The tornado continued near the Easterday community near Boone Road and State Route 36. Several tree lines and residences had damage. The tornado then continued along Dividing Ridge Road, crossed Interstate 71, and then slowly became weaker along Ghent Eagle, Briar Fork, and Indian Creek Roads.

Beyond Indian Creek Road, no additional damage was observed in Carroll County.

There were no injuries reported.
