Traffic Stop For Speeding Leads To Drug Arrest

Presumption of innocence until otherwise proven guilty

                                     

May 26, 2023, @ approximately 8:20 PM Madison Police Patrolman Andrew Gibbs executed a traffic stop in the 1000 block of W. Second Street for speeding.  The driver was identified as Erik M. McKay 22, Madison, Indiana.  While speaking with McKay, officers noted an odor of marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of McKay's Ford Focus.  With probable cause established to search McKay's vehicle, officers located a narcotic drug (mushrooms), marijuana, and paraphanailia associated with the use and distribution of drugs. 

Erik M. McKay was taken into custody without incident and faces the following preliminary alleged charges of; POSSESSION OF A NARCOTIC DRUG L 6 FELONY, POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA (OVER 30 GRAMS) L-6 FELONY, DEALING IN A SCHEDULED DRUG L-6 FELONY, POSSESSION OF PARAPHERNALIA CLASS C MISDEMEANOR, and RECKLESS DRIVING (SPEED) CLASS C MISDEMEANOR. 

Erik M. McKay has the presumption of innocence until otherwise proven guilty.  Officer Kyle Potter assisted Officer Gibbs with the investigation.
