Work Resumes This Week on SR 256 Reconstruction East of Austin

Next Level Roads

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced today that contractors will resume work on a $17,643,775 multi-phase project that will rebuild State Road 256 east of Austin and replace the bridge at Hutto Creek.

Milestone, the state’s contractor, is charged with rebuilding and widening the 5-mile section of S.R. 256 between U.S. Highway 31 and a terminus east of S.R. 203. Columbus-based crews will construct a new single-span bridge over Hutto Creek near Meridian Road, realign S.R. 256’s intersection with Coffee Pot Road and build a center left turn lane at S.R. 203.

During construction, motorists should be prepared for road closures and lane restrictions. Beginning this week, S.R. 256 will be closed between between Jack Morgan Road and Slab Road. There will be multiple closures along S.R. 256 between Jack Morgan Road and S.R. 203 through the duration of the project. Slow down, avoid distractions, and use extra caution while driving in the work zone.
