Scottsburg Girls Basketball Coaching Legend Donna Cheathum Announces Retirement

The most successful girls basketball coach in the state of Indiana has officially announced her retirement. Legendary coach Donna Cheatham made the announcement yesterday afternoon. Cheatham spent time coaching both the Scottsburg Warriorettes, and the Southwestern Lady Rebels.

She had two state championship appearances with each team, and 1 state championship with each team as well. She is the winningest coach in IHSAA Girls Basketball history, and the first to reach 700 wins. Coach Cheatham was in the gym the day the Scottsburg Warriorette basketball program was born in 1972 and after a 46 year coaching career, Cheatham said she is proud to retire as a Scottsburg Warriorette.

Although she won’t be leading the sideline on Donna Cheatham court, she says she may continue teaching part-time, and is looking forward to cheering on her Warriorettes as a fan.

8 Indiana All Stars (7 Scottsburg, 1 Southwestern)

1 Miss Basketball (1989 Renee Westmoreland)
