Scottsburg Girls Basketball Coaching Legend Donna Cheathum Announces Retirement

The most successful girls basketball coach in the state of Indiana has officially announced her retirement. Legendary coach Donna Cheatham made the announcement yesterday afternoon. Cheatham spent time coaching both the Scottsburg Warriorettes, and the Southwestern Lady Rebels.

She had two state championship appearances with each team, and 1 state championship with each team as well. She is the winningest coach in IHSAA Girls Basketball history, and the first to reach 700 wins. Coach Cheatham was in the gym the day the Scottsburg Warriorette basketball program was born in 1972 and after a 46 year coaching career, Cheatham said she is proud to retire as a Scottsburg Warriorette.

Although she won’t be leading the sideline on Donna Cheatham court, she says she may continue teaching part-time, and is looking forward to cheering on her Warriorettes as a fan.

532-182 in 34th year at school, 730-274 in 46th year overall

21 Sectional Titles (14 Scottsburg, 7 Southwestern)

11 Regional Titles (9 Scottsburg, 2 Southwestern)

5 Semi-State Titles (3 Scottsburg, 2 Southwestern)

2 State Runner-Up (1986 Scottsburg, 2003 Southwestern)

2 State Titles (1989 Scottsburg, 2002 Southwestern)

8 Indiana All Stars (7 Scottsburg, 1 Southwestern)

1 Miss Basketball (1989 Renee Westmoreland)

2x All Star Coach (1986, 2002)

2003 Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee

Winningest Coach in IHSAA Girls Basketball History (1st to record 700 Career Victories)
