Madison, IN, May 24, 2023 — Shawe Memorial HIgh School will be officially naming Friday May 26th “Charlie Schultz Day”!  Schultz, the 1973 Cross Country State Runner-Up and 1974 graduate of Shawe High School, will be the commencement speaker at this Sunday’s 2023 Shawe Graduation ceremony.

Leading up to that event, the staff and students at Shawe Memorial will honor Mr. Schultz with a ceremony Friday morning at 9:00am.

Schultz, who is currently a resident of Parker, Colorado, is known as one of the most successful athletes in Shawe history with his ORVC championship, sectional championship, and State Runner-Up in the fall of 1973!  Schultz also has many accolades in Track and Field and went on after his time at Shawe to run both Cross Country and Track at the University of Kentucky!  Schultz then went on to teach Physical Education and other subjects for the rest of his professional career.  He also served as a coach of UK track and field shortly after his running day for the Wildcats.

Class of 2023 graduate Calli Alderman became just the second runner behind Schultz to qualify for state in Cross Country having accomplished this feat twice in her four years of high school!

The “Charlie Schultz Day” ceremony will be held this Friday May 26th at 9am in front of Shawe High School.  Everyone in the communityi is invited to this event.
